Position Overview: We are in search of an experienced Opto-Mechanical Engineer to contribute to the development of our next-generation LiDAR sensors. The successful candidate will possess a robust background in designing and analyzing opto-mechanical systems, complemented by practical experience in testing optical components. Given the diverse applications of LiDAR technology, our goal is to create products that perform reliably in a variety of thermal and vibrational conditions. This role emphasizes rigorous design, analysis, and testing to ensure our sensors meet these challenges. Collaboration with mechanical, electrical, and testing teams will be essential, providing a unique opportunity to design optical systems for mass production.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the opto-mechanical design process from initial concept through to production for next-generation products.
  • Conduct opto-mechanical simulations to assess system performance across a broad spectrum of thermal and vibrational conditions.
  • Validate hardware through comprehensive testing, including the development of test plans and the necessary testing equipment.
  • Create detailed optical and opto-mechanical component drawings adhering to GD&T standards.
  • Perform tolerancing of optical and opto-mechanical components, ensuring alignment with acceptable fabrication tolerances.
  • Collaborate with vendors to ensure the fabrication and verification of high-precision optical and opto-mechanical components.
  • Work alongside the quality assurance team to guarantee that our products comply with stringent automotive and industrial standards.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Strong foundational knowledge in opto-mechanical principles, with experience in athermal design considered advantageous.
  • Proficiency in Solidworks or similar CAD software.
  • Experience with Zemax or equivalent optical simulation tools.
  • Skilled in tolerancing and producing mechanical drawings.
  • Familiarity with the design of bond joints and adhesive testing.
  • Experience in working with optical hardware.
  • Proven track record in managing optical component suppliers and design consultants.
  • Master's degree preferred in optical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with LiDAR systems.
  • Background in designing optical systems for mass production.
  • Proficiency in FEA software such as ANSYS or similar.
  • Familiarity with high-level programming languages (Python, Matlab) for simulation and data analysis.
  • Experience with Structural, Thermal, Optical Performance (STOP) analysis.
  • Knowledge of optical alignment and metrology equipment.
  • Understanding of stress, thermal, shock & vibration testing and related reliability assessments.
  • Familiarity with GD&T standards and ISO 10110.

Compensation: The salary range for this position is $120,000 - $180,000 annually, influenced by your skills, experience, location, and qualifications. This role may also include equity and benefits.
