General Job Overview:
The Press Brake Technician is responsible for setting up and operating various types of press brakes, including the AMADA RG100 with NC back gaging. This role involves utilizing the full length of the brake and an array of tools to shape sheet metal. The technician collaborates closely with the Plant Manager and other management personnel to achieve organizational objectives, working with minimal supervision from the department supervisor.

The Press Brake Technician (Class A) is tasked with establishing new jobs and determining the necessary tooling in conjunction with Quality Assurance.

This position requires planning and modifying jobs to maximize production efficiency, assisting in the design of required tooling, and applying mathematical principles to optimize output. The technician must be adept at setting up jobs using form calculations and is responsible for training Class B and C Brake Press personnel.

Minimum Qualifications:
Five years of experience in operating and setting up press brakes within the sheet metal sector.

A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

Ability to read and interpret complex drawings to produce acceptable parts (blueprint reading Class II).

Knowledge of GD&T tolerances is essential.

Geometry skills are advantageous.

Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory.

Must provide personal tools.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Train new employees.
  • Organize the workspace and all tooling.
  • Assist in the design of specialized tooling and fixtures.
  • Collaborate with Engineering to determine appropriate processing methods.
  • Coordinate with programming for flat pattern layouts.
  • Gather, preset, and install the correct tooling and fixtures.
  • Work with Quality Control to establish in-process inspection requirements and measuring devices.
  • Run initial pieces and ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Inspect all components as dictated by process sheets and drawings, utilizing various precision measuring instruments, including coordinate measuring devices.
  • Document inspection data and procedures.
  • Monitor tooling wear and replace as necessary.
  • Oversee production processes at regular intervals to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Advise on proper material handling and storage within the department.
  • Ensure production aligns with process sheets and time standards.
  • Monitor machine maintenance for lubrication, guarding, and cleanliness.
  • Assist colleagues with processing methods and work habits to sustain maximum efficiency.
  • Track scrap and rework.
