Role Summary: The Press Brake Technician is responsible for setting up and operating various types of press brakes, including the AMADA RG100 with NC back gauging. This role involves utilizing the full length of the brake and a range of tools to shape sheet metal effectively. The technician collaborates closely with the Plant Manager and other management personnel to achieve corporate objectives while working independently under minimal supervision. A Class A Press Brake Technician is tasked with establishing new jobs, determining necessary tooling in conjunction with Quality Assurance, and optimizing job plans for maximum productivity. Additionally, this role includes designing required tooling and understanding the mathematical principles necessary for achieving peak efficiency. The technician is also responsible for training Class B and C Brake Press employees.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of five years of experience in operating and setting up press brakes within the sheet metal industry.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings (blueprint reading Class II).
- Knowledge of GD&T tolerances is essential.
- Understanding of geometry is advantageous.
- Proficient in written and verbal English.
- Must provide personal tools.
Key Responsibilities:
- Train and mentor junior employees.
- Maintain an organized workspace and manage all tooling effectively.
- Assist in the design of specialized tooling and fixtures.
- Collaborate with Engineering to establish proper processing methods.
- Coordinate with programming for flat pattern layouts.
- Gather, preset, and install appropriate tooling and fixtures.
- Work with Quality Control to determine in-process inspection requirements and necessary measuring devices.
- Conduct first piece inspections to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Utilize precision measuring instruments, including coordinate measuring devices, to inspect parts as required.
- Document inspection data and procedures meticulously.
- Monitor tooling wear and replace as necessary.
- Oversee production processes to ensure ongoing compliance with specifications.
- Advise on material handling and storage best practices within the department.
- Ensure production aligns with process sheets and time standards.
- Maintain machine cleanliness and oversee lubrication and guarding.
- Assist colleagues in processing methods and work habits to sustain optimal efficiency.
- Track scrap and rework metrics.
