About the Corporate Credit Division

The Corporate Credit division serves as a comprehensive credit assessment, oversight, and product management entity, overseeing credit for clients across various sectors, including individuals, corporations, and institutions. To ensure seamless service delivery, the Corporate Credit team collaborates with numerous partners in Global Risk, Global Operations, Global Banking, and Consumer & Small Business Banking.

Internship Program Details

The Corporate Credit Summer Analyst Internship is a ten-week program designed to provide extensive exposure to our credit assessment, oversight, business controls, and data management processes. The program focuses on practical training complemented by classroom instruction aimed at enhancing technical, analytical, and professional skills.

Our objective is to enable you to build upon your academic background, particularly in technical skills, industry knowledge, and familiarity with a corporate setting while advancing your career based on your interests and qualifications. Your training and development are our utmost priority, featuring comprehensive formal training at the program's commencement and ongoing support, events, and mentorship throughout.

The Corporate Credit program comprises five specialized tracks to cater to various sectors. These tracks include:

  • Consumer Credit
  • Global Wealth & Investment Management Credit (Supporting our Merrill and Private Bank clients)
  • Global Commercial Banking (GCB), Asset-Based Finance, and Commercial Real Estate Credit
  • Global Corporate & Investment Banking and Global Markets Credit
  • Data Analytics and Business Controls/Process Optimization

Focus on Global Corporate & Investment Banking and Global Markets Credit:

Candidates for this credit portfolio should possess a solid understanding of corporate finance and accounting principles to assess company financials. The teams are organized by client size, industry, and product specialty groups:

  • Global Corporate & Investment Banking Credit: Extend credit to large multinational corporate clients, middle-market firms, and emerging growth companies globally. This team encompasses various industry sectors, including our Leveraged Finance and Renewable Energy-focused teams.
  • Global Markets Credit: Provide credit to facilitate investment funds and other financial market participants in managing products such as debt, equity, commodities, and foreign exchange.

Daily Responsibilities

Throughout the ten-week program, you will engage in a variety of daily tasks based on the credit portfolio to which you are assigned. You will be partnered with a senior team of credit professionals and may interact with diverse companies and institutions. Potential responsibilities include:

  • Analyzing client financial data, identifying and mitigating potential risks, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and evaluating collateral to determine creditworthiness.
  • Participating in loan structuring discussions and completing loan documentation.
  • Conducting monitoring activities.
  • Reviewing and assessing collateral to ensure compliance with requirements.
  • Evaluating clients' financial performance by comparing it to historical data.
  • Performing cash-flow analyses to understand clients' repayment capabilities.
  • Attending client meetings to gain deeper insights into the client's business, management team, and past and future performance.
  • Ensuring adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Understanding the internal use of credit data and its provision to regulatory partners.

Qualifications

  • Candidates must be pursuing a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with a graduation timeframe within the specified range.
  • A minimum GPA of 3.2 is preferred.
  • A track record of high achievement.
  • Common fields of study include, but are not limited to:
    • Corporate Finance
    • Accounting (12+ credit hours preferred, including upper-level courses)
    • Economics
    • Other related disciplines
  • Candidates should demonstrate a high level of intellectual curiosity, a commitment to operational excellence, and a focus on achieving sustainable results.
  • Additionally, students should possess strong academic and technical skills in Microsoft Office, along with proficiencies in leadership, teamwork, problem-solving, analytical skills, verbal and written communication, and professionalism.
