Job Summary

The Director of Human Resources at Notre Dame of Maryland University is responsible for leading the Human Resources function, developing and managing policies and programs, and providing strategic HR advice to senior staff and managers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Employee Relations: Foster a positive working environment, resolve problems, and determine employee relations practices and programs.
  • Compensation: Establish and maintain a classification program, prepare and monitor salary budget, and oversee salary surveys.
  • Benefits: Analyze and review employee benefits, prepare and monitor benefits budget, and ensure cost effectiveness and competitiveness.
  • Performance Management: Develop and maintain performance appraisal systems, assist managers in the corrective action process, and track 90-day probationary period evaluations.
  • Policy and Procedure: Initiate new policies, evaluate and interpret existing policies, and assist managers in implementing policies and procedures.
  • Payroll and Reporting: Oversee departmental responsibility for faculty/staff and student assistant payroll management, execution, and required reporting.
  • HRIS: Direct preparation and maintenance of reports, evaluate HRIS use, and recommend changes or enhancements.
  • Training and Development: Establish internal and external training programs, work with senior staff to identify and meet training needs, and assist managers in ensuring required trainings are completed.
  • Employment Laws and Regulations: Ensure all human resource functions operate in conformance with generally accepted HR standards and applicable federal and state laws.
  • Worker's Compensation: Maintain OSHA compliance, integrate with existing safety initiatives, and return to work policies.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in Human Resources or a related field, and at least 5 years of experience in HR management. Strong communication and problem-solving skills are required, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
