Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Seafood Order Writer to join our team at Whole Foods Market. As a key member of our seafood department, you will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely ordering of seafood products, maintaining inventory levels, and providing exceptional customer service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Replenish seafood products through proper buying procedures, ensuring accurate and timely ordering to meet customer demand.
  • Monitor and act upon open PO reports for both purchases and credits, maintaining accurate records and resolving any discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Control spoilage and shrink, achieving turn goals and participating in inventory management to optimize product freshness and availability.
  • Complete spoilage, sampling, temperature, and sweep worksheets as required, ensuring compliance with food safety and quality standards.
  • Oversee customer special order procedures, ensuring accurate and timely fulfillment of customer requests.
  • Analyze and control product transfers, waste, and spoilage, identifying areas for improvement and implementing solutions to minimize losses.
  • Support leadership in conducting inventories, ensuring accurate and efficient counting and reconciliation of seafood products.
  • Maintain financial profitability by meeting and exceeding purchasing and sales targets, ensuring optimal product pricing and inventory levels.
  • Separate, scan, and dispose of spoilage and shrink, maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
  • Provide exceptional customer service, addressing customer needs in a timely and effective manner and modeling suggestive selling techniques.
  • Maximize sales potential through effective and proper procedures for prepping, storing, rotating, stocking, and merchandising seafood products.
  • Follow and comply with established procedures, including weights and measures, health and sanitation, and safe work practices.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary working and shopping environment, adhering to Whole Foods Market's high standards for cleanliness and safety.
  • Perform opening, mid, and closing duties as assigned, ensuring accuracy of signs and pricing.
  • Immediately report safety hazards and violations, ensuring a safe working environment for all team members.
Requirements
  • Comprehensive knowledge of seafood products, including types, sources, and handling procedures.
  • Working knowledge and application of all seafood merchandising expectations, including display and presentation standards.
  • Ability to educate team members on product knowledge and convey enthusiasm for seafood products.
  • Strong basic math skills, including ability to accurately calculate inventory levels and product costs.
  • Knowledge and ability to use computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and ordering systems.
  • Strong to excellent communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team, providing exceptional customer service and support to colleagues.
  • Ability to deliver information in a clear and respectful manner to fellow team members, customers, and vendors.
  • Ability to meet customer service expectations and standards in all interactions with customers, vendors, and team members.
  • Ability to follow directions and procedures, demonstrating effective time management and organization skills.

  • Strong work ethic and ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a sense of urgency, prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 12+ months retail experience, preferably in a seafood or grocery environment.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds, with frequent lifting and carrying of seafood products.
  • Standing and walking for 6-8 hours in an 8-hour workday, with occasional sitting and bending.
  • Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, and pulling.
  • Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching.
  • Exposure to FDA-approved cleaning chemicals and temperatures up to 90°F.
  • Ability to work in a wet and cold environment, with occasional exposure to knives and other cutting equipment.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
