Job Overview:

General Summary:
Under the direct guidance of a licensed Pharmacist, this role involves executing tasks related to the preparation and distribution of medications, including intravenous (IV) admixtures.

Key Responsibilities:
Responsibilities in this section are fundamental to the role. Failure to perform these duties, with or without reasonable accommodation, may lead to disqualification from the position.

Core Duties of Pharmacy Technician II:

  • Following confirmed order entry by a Doctor of Pharmacy, accurately places medications in labeled containers for verification by a licensed Pharmacist.
  • Delivers completed medication orders to designated areas as required.
  • Restocks patient medication cassettes efficiently.
  • Engages in the replenishment of automated dispensing machines, subject to verification by a licensed Pharmacist, and maintains necessary reports.
  • Transports IV fluids to patient care locations and retrieves any unused IV fluids for return to the pharmacy.
  • Conducts light cleaning duties within the pharmacy.
  • Restocks returned medications promptly.
  • Processes requests for floor stock medications and documents the fulfillment of orders.
  • Assists in tracking medications and supplies that require reordering.
  • Participates in billing routines to ensure accurate and timely patient billing.
  • Assists in receiving, inspecting, and shelving medications upon delivery from suppliers.
  • Supports the stock replenishment of decentralized pharmacy units as needed.
  • Rotates stock regularly to minimize expiration risks.
  • Files physician orders specific to patients accurately.
  • Prepares verification forms for usage, maintains inventory records for Controlled Dangerous Substances.
  • Participates in daily inventory counts and promptly reports any discrepancies to the Pharmacy Supervisor or Director.
  • Assists in the preparation of IV admixtures and documents all work performed.
  • Helps set up IV compounders and prepares batch sterile items as required.
  • Maintains stock levels of IV base fluids and additives in the preparation area.
  • Assists with the setup and coordination of Automated Dispensing machines.
  • Provides primary training and onboarding for new pharmacy technicians.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisory staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
A high school diploma or GED is required.
Experience:
A minimum of 2 years of experience as a pharmacy technician or completion of Chemotherapy preparation training is required.
Licenses/Certifications:
Required:

Must obtain a Pharmacy Technician Permit from the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy within the first six weeks of employment in this position.

BLS certification and an Immunization Administration Certificate are preferred. If the technician holds an Immunization Administration Certification, BLS certification will be mandatory.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Understanding of basic science and mathematics. Ability to perform fundamental mathematical calculations. Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with colleagues. Proficient computer skills. Familiarity with pharmacy and medication protocols is essential.
