Key Responsibilities
The Pharmacy Technician plays a vital role in supporting the pharmacist with pharmaceutical care services within the hospital. Key duties include:
- Preparing and processing medications under the guidance of a pharmacist.
- Ensuring proper medication storage in nursing units.
- Repackaging and labeling medications appropriately.
- Ordering, stocking, and transporting pharmaceutical supplies in accordance with established policies.
- Providing courteous assistance to patients, families, visitors, and staff.
- Demonstrating age-specific competencies and addressing unique patient needs.
- Performing necessary mathematical calculations for compounding medications.
Qualifications
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent required.
Licensure/Certification:
Must register with the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician within 45 days of employment and obtain national technician certification within one year of service.
Experience:
Preferred one year of experience in a hospital pharmacy setting.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Assisting pharmacists in the preparation, dispensing, compounding, and ordering of medications.
- Competency in repackaging medications and restocking automated dispensing machines.
- Knowledge of aseptic techniques and safe handling of hazardous materials.
- Proficiency in word processing and data entry sufficient for generating reports.
