Position Overview

This role is pivotal in overseeing the operational management of facilities, ensuring that all aspects of housekeeping, maintenance, and custodial services are executed to uphold the integrity of the physical environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Directs the operational functions related to facilities, including maintenance and custodial services essential for the upkeep of the residential complex.
  • Formulates, monitors, and manages the facilities budget, providing regular financial reports and forecasts to ensure adherence to departmental standards.
  • Collaborates with the Physical Plant and Construction, Maintenance & Interior Design teams to coordinate long-term maintenance strategies, including renovations and equipment procurement.
  • Oversees the recruitment, training, supervision, evaluation, and disciplinary actions of supervisory and support personnel within the complex.
  • Conducts inspections to ensure compliance with safety regulations and quality standards set by University, State, and Federal guidelines.
  • Facilitates the organization of special events, projects, and daily operations, providing technical guidance and oversight for repairs and maintenance of facilities and equipment.
  • Engages with residents, parents, faculty, and staff to address inquiries, resolve issues, gather feedback, and provide support.
  • Assists in strategic planning and the development of long-term operational objectives, including budget preparation and financial review for the department.
Communication and Interpersonal Relations:

Engagement With:
  • Co-workers for advice and discussions on policies and procedures.
  • Complex Operations and Dining Services Managers to address maintenance needs and customer inquiries.
  • Supervisory Staff for project discussions, staffing assistance, and operational evaluations.
  • Support Staff to assign tasks, supervise activities, and conduct operational reviews.
  • Union Representatives regarding contract matters and general inquiries.
  • Physical Plant and Maintenance Services for clarifying work orders and ensuring service specifications are met.
  • University Department Representatives for service coordination and information exchange.
  • Vendors and Consultants for project discussions and material evaluations.
  • Students and Parents to provide assistance and resolve concerns.
  • Law Enforcement for reporting incidents and ensuring safety protocols are followed.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position entails third-level supervision over regular university staff.

Health and Safety Responsibilities:

The role carries responsibilities for the health and safety of others, including training in safe work practices.

Impact on Operations:

Inaccuracies in planning and budgeting may result in resource losses and operational disruptions.

Work Environment:

Standard office setting requiring moderate physical activity, including walking and climbing stairs.

Qualifications:

Education equivalent to a four-year degree in a relevant field, coupled with five to eight years of progressively responsible experience in facilities management, financial analysis, and budgeting.

Additional Requirements:

1. Valid vehicle operator's license may be required for job duties.
2. Proficiency in basic computer operations and communication tools is necessary.
