Clinical Engineering Specialist

POSITION OVERVIEW: The Clinical Engineering Specialist plays a vital role in the innovation, implementation, and upkeep of medical technologies and devices. This position is essential in ensuring that all medical apparatus utilized within the healthcare facility operates safely, efficiently, and effectively. The specialist collaborates with various department heads and healthcare professionals to guarantee that all technological solutions enhance patient outcomes while adhering to regulatory guidelines. Reports to the Facilities Director. Exempt Position.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
Maintenance and Repair of Equipment: Conduct routine evaluations, maintenance, and repairs of medical devices, including imaging systems, surgical instruments, and life-support machines. Identify and rectify technical issues swiftly to reduce operational interruptions. Adjust and calibrate devices to ensure precision and dependability.Installation and Evaluation of Equipment: Set up new medical devices and verify they conform to manufacturer specifications and healthcare facility standards. Execute performance assessments and validation of devices to ensure adherence to safety regulations.Collaboration and Assistance: Partner with department leaders and healthcare staff to ascertain their requirements and provide education on the proper use of medical devices. Work alongside fellow engineers and IT personnel to integrate medical devices with healthcare information systems.Compliance with Regulations: Ensure that all medical devices meet local, state, and federal regulations, including FDA requirements. Maintain comprehensive records for equipment inventory and history, encompassing repairs, maintenance, and enhancements.Research and Innovation: Keep abreast of the latest developments in biomedical engineering and medical technology. Engage in research initiatives aimed at creating new medical devices or refining existing technologies.Safety and Quality Control: Enforce safety measures to avert accidents and equipment failures. Perform quality assurance evaluations and audits to uphold high standards of patient care.Work Schedule Requirements:This role necessitates the employee's presence in the clinics typically from 8am-5pm, Monday through Friday. Exempt employees are expected to be available as needed and should anticipate taking calls and working outside of regular hours.REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering or a related discipline (Master's degree preferred).Relevant certification (e.g., Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician - CBET) is required within one year of hire.Strong knowledge of medical device regulations and standards.Experience with medical device software, hardware, and network systems.Exceptional problem-solving abilities and meticulous attention to detail.Effective communication skills with medical professionals and technical teams.Familiarity with hospital safety protocols and procedures.Experience:
A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a healthcare or hospital environment is preferred.Experience with specific medical devices or systems utilized in the healthcare setting (e.g., imaging equipment, monitoring systems).FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Job Demands:
Job requirements include, but are not limited to: sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending, squatting, and reaching. Requires good finger dexterity and repetitive motions with hands and fingers. Requires the ability to have good vision and hearing. Pushing and pulling equipment may be necessary.
