Job Summary

The State of California is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff Services Manager II to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for providing administrative support and expertise to our programs, ensuring compliance with State, Department, and Division policies and procedures, and maintaining the fiscal integrity of our operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, direct, and administer the work of professional staff with a diverse set of tasks and functions.
  • Independently manage approximately four administrative teams comprised of management, analytical, and clerical staff.
  • Ensure division compliance with State, Department, and/or Division administrative policies and procedures.
  • Maintain the fiscal integrity of the DLE and provide administrative support and expertise to the DLE programs.
  • Initiate and implement administrative policies and procedures as necessary.
  • Provide guidance and training to DLE management and staff on Budget Change Proposals (BCP).
  • Oversee the DLE's recruitment efforts.
Requirements
  • Extensive experience in supervision and management, coupled with a high degree of technical and analytical expertise in budgeting.
  • Expertise in State Administration Manual (SAM), State budgeting methods and procedures, and departmental programs and policies.
  • Ability to interpret policies and equate them to decisions and negotiate effectively with internal managers on complex and sensitive financial issues.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of Departmental staff.
  • Ability to perform efficiently and effectively under rigid time constraints and pressure.
  • Ability to multitask and manage high priority projects.
