Position Summary

The Afterschool Inclusion Specialist plays a critical role in supporting students with autism spectrum disorder and other special needs in our afterschool programs. Reporting to the Director of JCC Kids' Club Joaquin Miller and Director of Afterschool Programs, this specialist will work closely with teachers, parents, and staff to create a positive and inclusive environment for all students. Key responsibilities include developing individualized support plans, providing behavioral interventions, and facilitating communication between families and school staff.

Administrative Responsibilities
  • Create toolboxes and playbooks for students who require extra support in behavioral and emotional management.
  • Develop and implement standardized systems for consistency across home, school, and afterschool settings.
  • Provide training and support for staff on autism spectrum disorder and related topics.
Student Support
  • Help regulate the emotions and behavior of students with autism spectrum disorder and other special needs.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration between families, teachers, and staff to ensure a smooth transition between school and afterschool settings.
  • Develop and implement individualized support plans to meet the unique needs of each student.
Communication and Collaboration
  • Inform staff about autism spectrum disorder and related topics.
  • Develop and implement communication strategies to ensure effective collaboration between families, teachers, and staff.
  • Document all behavior contracts, disciplinary moments, and communication regarding them with parents and leadership.
Requirements
  • At least 1-2 years of experience working with children on the autism spectrum.
  • At least 1-2 years of experience working with children in grades K-5.
  • ABA Training or other Special Education training.
  • BA in Special Education or relevant field preferred.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a team and provide support to staff.
