Food Safety Extension Educator

Job SummaryThe Food Safety Extension Educator plays a critical role in developing and delivering educational programs, publications, and services to meet the needs of food processors. With a focus on improving food safety practices related to food product development, food processing, and food safety management, this position conducts applied research and provides research-based information to food processors and other stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and teach educational programs, providing research-based information to food processors on food safety management practices and risk management.
- Collaborate with Extension and other staff to prepare, edit, and publish research-based educational materials, such as newsletters, management guides, fact sheets, and articles.
- Conduct applied research and/or scholarly or creative activity to meet emerging needs of commercial processors statewide related to best practices for food processing applications.
- Conduct needs assessment, develop program objectives, design delivery methods, and develop evaluation procedures in collaboration with supervisor and other Extension Faculty and Staff.
- Seek out and apply for external funding, including public grants, to support program activities.
- Participate in overall program management, including staff coordination and evaluation, reporting, and financial administration.
- Bachelor's degree in food science, biological science, agricultural science, or a closely related field.
- Valid US driver's license.
- Ability to maintain a diverse schedule of local, regional, and statewide activities.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively with diverse populations.
- Ability to work independently to organize multiple tasks and set priorities for action.
- Experience in extension or public outreach.
- Experience with industrial applications of food science.
- Training in food safety management systems, such as Preventive Controls for Human Food, Seafood HACCP, Juice HACCP, or Meat & Poultry HACCP.
- Ability to teach and engage in public education.
- Proficiency with data analysis and/or layout and publication software.
