Job Overview

Position Title: Financial Controller

FLSA Classification: Exempt

Classification: 12 month Administrative - Full Time, 40 hours per week

Reports to: Chief Financial Officer

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience, preferably in the non-profit sector
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks, Microsoft Office Suite, and Google Workspace
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic office setting
  • High level of professionalism and adaptability
Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily accounting and bookkeeping operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger management.
  • Execute additional daily accounting tasks as required.
  • Process semi-monthly payroll, with entries prepared by the CFO, ensuring timely and accurate payroll reporting and compliance with tax obligations.
  • Conduct monthly and quarterly reconciliations of bank and investment accounts, preparing and entering necessary journal entries.
  • Generate financial statements from the Trial Balance, ensuring accuracy through reconciliation of balance sheet accounts and appropriate journal entries.
  • Assist the CFO in developing and monitoring departmental budgets, collaborating with administrators and department heads on budget performance.
  • Communicate accounting policies to relevant staff and ensure adherence to these policies.
Audit Responsibilities
  • Lead the preparation of schedules and documentation for the annual financial audit and 403(b) plan audit.
  • Manage the preparation of Form 990.
  • Maintain organized office files for all audit-related documentation.
Human Resources Generalist Duties
  • Support the HR department's daily operations, including reviewing HR policies against current regulations and drafting necessary documentation.
  • Contribute to the development of HR objectives and systems, including metrics and reporting for school compliance.
  • Assist in managing employee benefits, compensation, and performance evaluation programs.
  • Propose new procedures to enhance employee experience and improve HR efficiency.
  • Coordinate the onboarding process for new hires, ensuring a seamless experience across departments.
  • Manage administrative tasks related to onboarding, including data entry in the HR information system and compliance audits.
  • Handle off-boarding processes for departing employees.
  • Provide comprehensive HR advisory services to employees on various matters, including health issues and organizational changes.
General Expectations
  • Stay informed about new regulations in GAAP and relevant non-profit accounting standards.
  • Assist in preparing annual surveys and compliance reports for various educational organizations.
  • All prospective employees must successfully pass a background check.
  • The physical and mental demands of this role require the ability to perform multiple tasks under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the Chief Financial Officer as needed.
