Job Summary

Covenant Health is seeking a skilled Clinical Laboratory Technician to join our team. As a Clinical Laboratory Technician, you will play a vital role in the diagnosis and treatment of patients by performing routine and specialized clinical lab tests.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect and properly handle venous and capillary blood specimens
  • Perform all routine and specialized lab tests trained for as assigned
  • Run, maintain, and/or repair laboratory equipment
  • Perform and document quality control samples in assigned work area
  • Clean and sterilize equipment, glassware, and instruments
  • Prepare solutions, reagents, and stains according to standard formulas and procedures
  • Answer phones and respond to physician inquiries regarding lab results
  • Maintain required records, reports, statistics, logs, files to comply with requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies
  • Act as CLIA trainer for clinic as appropriate and have thorough knowledge of lab requirements
  • Inform patients of test results and medication changes or adjustments as needed after physician reviews and approves report
  • Plan work to insure maximum productivity with minimum amount of 'carry over' work, while keeping overtime to a minimum
  • Responsible for communicating to the other appropriate staff needed information about patient samples or instrument performance
  • Comply with OSHA standards, Universal Precautions, safety manuals, and laboratory policies and procedures
  • Use fundamentals of AIDET when communicating with patients
  • Maintain all insurance payor billing requirements and lab billing procedures so profitability of lab is maximized
  • Attend meetings as required and participate on committees as directed
Requirements
  • Minimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum Experience: Entry-level position with basic computer skills, phlebotomy skills, and knowledge of basic medical terminology
  • Licensure Requirement: None
