About the Role

The General Superintendent provides leadership for field operations and execution of assigned projects, ensuring conformance with construction schedules, quality levels, and company standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor project progress, identify potential challenges, and develop creative solutions to bring projects in on schedule and under budget.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, architects, and project teams to ensure client satisfaction and project success.
  • Recruit, mentor, and train field staff to ensure effective project execution and career advancement opportunities.
  • Provide leadership, advice, and assistance to field staff on materials, sequencing, scheduling, personnel, and methods of construction.
  • Act as an advocate for Field Operations and participate in business development to drive project growth and revenue.
Pre-construction/Estimating
  • Participate in sales presentations and pre-construction services to drive project wins.
  • Review projects for constructability, develop construction plans, and prepare baseline schedules.
  • Confirm baseline schedules meet project delivery requirements and create site access and staging plans.
  • Provide input on budgets and determine field staff requirements.
Construction
  • Implement Suffolk policies and procedures, including field staff assignments, performance evaluations, and weekly site visits.
  • Ensure field personnel perform to established standards, oversee baseline schedule development, and monitor project schedules for compliance.
  • Provide leadership in the monthly update and narrative process, confirm workmanship and materials meet plans and specifications, and review project schedules during weekly visits.
  • Respond creatively to challenges to bring projects in on schedule and under budget, ensure timely completion of punch lists, and participate in one-year warranty walkthroughs.
Client Relationships and Meeting Management
  • Attend scheduled meetings to monitor and manage projects, attend owner meetings as necessary, and maintain continuous client contact to gauge performance perceptions.
  • Communicate relevant information to project teams, foster effective working relationships with team members, and coordinate field training in job-specific and safety training.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Construction Management and relevant experience relative to project size and scope.
  • Minimum of 15 years of general contracting experience, with applicable area licenses and a strong sense of urgency and initiative.
  • Excellent organizational skills, judgment to know when to escalate issues, and a strong sense of professionalism and caring.
