Job Summary

We are seeking a visionary leader to serve as the Department Chair for Social Work at the University of Vermont. As a Full Professor, you will provide strategic leadership, foster a culture of excellence, and drive innovation in social work education and research.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide effective leadership and vision for the Department of Social Work
  • Foster a culture of excellence, diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to advance the department's mission and goals
  • Lead and manage faculty, staff, and students to achieve academic excellence
  • Collaborate with the College of Education and Social Services leadership team to advance the college's mission and goals
  • Develop and manage budgets, resources, and personnel to ensure the department's operational effectiveness
  • Represent the department and the university in various external contexts, including professional organizations and community partnerships
Qualifications
  • PhD in Social Work or a closely related field
  • Progressive leadership experience in higher education, preferably in a social work department
  • Strong commitment to principles of diversity, equity, justice, inclusion, and belonging
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a unionized environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Scholarly record commensurate with the rank of Full Professor
  • Experience with extramural funding and research
  • Strong teaching and mentoring skills
  • Ability to develop and implement innovative programs and initiatives
