Shift: 1st Shift (Monday-Friday 4 to 1:45)

Valmont is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual for the position of General Shop Help within our Coatings Division. This role involves preparing materials and products for the galvanizing process, including tasks such as hanging angles on spreader bars, staging tubular items, and getting small components ready for galvanizing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safe use and proper handling of production fixtures, chains, and hooks.
  • Wire small to medium-sized components to racks for the pickling or galvanizing process.
  • Arrange chains and ropes around steel bundles for racking purposes.
  • Manually transport lightweight steel pieces across various locations within the facility.
  • Utilize air guns to enhance the quality of galvanized products by removing zinc particles.
  • Operate air or electric tools to prepare or clean steel for pickling or galvanizing.
  • Assist with general plant maintenance and cleanliness.
  • Adhere to safety protocols to protect oneself and colleagues from accidents and injuries.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to comprehend and follow both written and verbal instructions.
  • Proficiency in accurately reading a tape measure.
  • Effective communication skills to report issues or requirements to supervisors.
  • Capability to lift up to 50 pounds from ground to shoulder height or higher.
  • Physical stamina to stand for extended periods in an open-air environment while wearing personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Strong commitment to safety at all times.
  • A motivated individual with integrity and a passion for achieving exceptional results.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Six months of experience in a galvanizing role.
  • Familiarity with hand tools and gauges, including impact wrenches, air grinders, drills, and torches.
  • Experience operating a bridge crane.
  • Ability to interact positively with coworkers.
  • Attention to detail and adherence to work instructions.
  • Certification in heavy equipment operation, including forklift operation.
