Position Overview:
This role is integral to the management of accounts receivable, providing guidance to patients and their families regarding insurance and payment options. The incumbent will reach out to patients with outstanding balances due to lack of insurance or unmet deductibles, assisting them in establishing payment plans or settling their accounts in full. Given that reimbursement relies on accurate billing and collection processes, the individual must possess comprehensive knowledge of all facets of accounts receivable management. This position involves reviewing self-pay balances that are over 120 days old to assess eligibility for transfer to a collection agency. The specialist will prepare and analyze accounts to evaluate statements, payment history, and collection efforts, prioritizing collection reports based on the largest outstanding balances. Collaboration with collection agencies will be necessary to confirm balance and account details, while maintaining precise records of payments and necessary insurance adjustments.

Qualifications:
Education:
1) High School Diploma or equivalent.
2) Preference will be given to candidates with:
a) Formal education or experience in medical terminology.
b) Proficiency in electronic processing related to various insurance types, including Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Medicare, Medical Assistance, and commercial policies.
c) Knowledge of collection procedures for programs such as Act 6, Workers' Compensation, VA, and Champus.

Experience:
1) A minimum of two years of experience in a public-facing role is required.
2) At least two years of telephone collection experience within a healthcare setting, demonstrating a thorough understanding of collection regulations, or completion of a Medical Secretary program in lieu of experience is acceptable.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1) Proficient in operating PC systems with a focus on specific hospital collection applications, including Medicare, Medical Assistance, and Blue Cross/Blue Shield.
2) Familiarity with the billing requirements of various third-party payers, including:
a) Medicare
b) Medicaid
c) Blue Cross
d) Commercial Insurance
e) HMO
f) MVA
g) OVR
h) MH/MR
i) Workers' Compensation
