Department Overview:

The Texas Tech University Libraries play a crucial role in supporting students and faculty in their academic pursuits. The library system includes multiple libraries, providing access to millions of physical volumes and electronic resources.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the shift leader and primary customer service contact for library staff during evening and weekend hours.
  • Ensure the safety and security of the library and its patrons.
  • Oversee the opening and closing procedures of the library.
  • Assist in collecting and analyzing data for Access Services, preparing reports as necessary.
  • Provide exceptional customer service in various service areas, including managing incoming inquiries.
  • Maintain inventory and manage statistical data related to library transactions.
  • Collaborate with emergency responders to ensure patron safety.
  • Support the management of departmental digital resources and dashboards.
  • Assist patrons with library card issuance and other services.
  • Contribute to the development and revision of Access Services policies.
  • Monitor departmental communication channels.
  • Complete necessary reports and participate in departmental meetings and training.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with four years of library experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a library setting.
  • Familiarity with Integrated Library Systems.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and handle challenging customer interactions.

Safety Compliance:

All employees are expected to adhere to safety practices and comply with health and safety regulations.
