Overview:

Under the guidance of the Pathway Home Program Manager/Supervisor, the Residential Support Specialist is tasked with delivering client care, coordinating services, and ensuring safety protocols for interim housing clients.

The specialist will engage with clients on a daily basis to provide essential support.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Understand and effectively communicate the mission, vision, and core values of HOPICS.
  • Collaborate with Program Managers, Supervisors, Direct Service Staff, and security personnel.
  • Conduct regular meetings with management to discuss observations and findings.
  • Offer light case management, including the development of individualized housing service plans and securing necessary services for participants.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of all LAHSA Funded Programs and their eligibility criteria.
  • Support program staff in the formulation of procedures and ensure timely communication to all staff members.
  • Meet with participants regularly to assess needs, progress, and any barriers they may face.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of client life-skills programs.
  • Coordinate with project staff and partners to provide housing placement and supportive services to ensure clients achieve stability in permanent housing.
  • Manage the calendar for Case Managers and housing navigators as required.
  • Provide administrative support for special projects as necessary.
  • Assist clients in identifying employment opportunities and enhancing their employment readiness.
  • Ensure that incident reports are submitted within 24 hours of a shift.
  • Conduct daily room inspections and relay client information after each shift.
  • Travel between HOPICS / Pathway Home program locations to support case managers and other monitors.
  • Understand and accurately convey the HUD definition of homelessness and chronic homelessness.
  • Attend and document all relevant meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Be available for some evening and weekend shifts as needed.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Program Supervisor or Program Manager.
  • Effectively follow oral and written instructions.
  • Maintain client service records in compliance with HIPAA and other funding requirements.
  • Uphold professional boundaries with staff and partners, adhering to SSG's Code of Ethics and HOPICS' Core Values.
  • Represent the agency professionally at meetings and community events.
  • Regular attendance is mandatory.

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Provide support to case managers with program-related documentation, including individual service plans and assessments.
  • Assist with case management support across all LAHSA Funded programs as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with direct service staff to ensure accurate documentation in client files for service coordination and other provided services.

Supervisory Role:
This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications:

Associate degree in Social Services or a related field from an accredited institution, with 1-2 years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and experience. If in recovery, a minimum of three years of sobriety is required. Proficiency in HMIS, Microsoft Office Suite, and other database programs is essential. Attention to detail and professional appearance are required.


Mandatory Requirements:
Ability to work effectively with clients from diverse backgrounds. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential. A valid California Driver's License and proof of insurance are required, along with reliable transportation. Employment eligibility verification and background checks are mandatory.

Health Requirements:
TB test results must be current within three months prior to hire and renewed annually. CPR and First Aid certifications are required within 30 days of employment.

Working Conditions:
May involve exposure to challenging client behaviors. Requires communication with various stakeholders, including public agencies and community organizations. Local travel is necessary, and some evening and weekend work may be required. The work environment may be noisy and disruptive at times.

Physical and Mental Requirements:
This role requires the ability to manage distractions and adapt to changing priorities while processing information effectively.
