Lifeguard Job Description

Reports to: Aquatics Supervisor/Assistant General Manager

Role Overview:

The lifeguard plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety of patrons and students in and around the pool area, as well as preventing and responding to emergencies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain vigilant observation of patrons in the pool area; respond promptly and appropriately to ensure the safety of customers during emergencies.
  • Provide emergency care and treatment as necessary until emergency medical services arrive.
  • Document and maintain accurate incident reports.
  • Exhibit a professional demeanor and attitude at all times, while upholding a high standard of customer service.
  • Perform various tasks as directed to keep the facility clean and safe.
  • Ensure the pool area is consistently supervised and attended in accordance with established safety standards.
Additional Responsibilities: Undertake other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Maintain current Red Cross Lifeguard certification and CPR/AED certification for adults, infants, and swimmers.
  • Previous experience in swim instruction is essential.
  • Must successfully complete all lifeguarding prerequisites as per Red Cross standards.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 75 lbs.
  • Refer to the Lifeguard Job Description for further requirements while serving as a deck supervisor.
Uniform Policy: Lifeguards are required to wear SafeSplash uniforms, which include a designated lifeguard t-shirt and appropriate shorts. One t-shirt will be provided annually; additional uniforms must be purchased by the employee. Uniforms must be kept clean and professional. Supervisors may require the purchase of additional uniforms if deemed necessary. If a uniform is not worn during assigned hours, employees may be sent home without pay.

Work Hours: 3-30 hours per week
