POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Retail Operations Associate is tasked with managing cash transactions, processing payments, and ensuring accuracy in financial dealings.

When not engaged in cashier duties, responsibilities will include sorting and organizing donated items, pricing inventory, and restocking merchandise as necessary.

This role acts as a representative for The Salvation Army.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions with minimal oversight.

Basic understanding of inventory management, retail operations, and loss prevention.

Proficiency in operating cash registers and handling financial transactions.

Strong customer service skills, providing prompt and courteous assistance to patrons.

Effective communication and interpersonal abilities, along with basic reading, writing, and math skills.

Able to engage effectively with the public, colleagues, and volunteers from diverse backgrounds.

Must demonstrate the highest level of confidentiality regarding business and client information.

Must successfully complete all required background checks.

At least one (1) year of experience in any field (retail/sales preferred).

Ability to work independently and professionally to achieve management-set goals.

Valid driver's license with a clean driving and criminal history.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain a tidy and safe working environment.

Operate the cash register, process sales, issue receipts, and handle corrections as needed. Accept payments, provide change, and verify checks and credit cards accurately.

Respond to phone inquiries in a friendly and professional manner.

Address customer complaints regarding merchandise effectively.


Ensure excellent customer relations by providing prompt and courteous service, ensuring all items are accurately priced.

Restock the store, which includes sorting, hanging, pricing, merchandising, and discarding unusable items. Remove outdated items, label them, and return them to the warehouse.

Receive donations and complete customer donation receipts.

Participate in store staff meetings as required and stay updated on new policies and procedures.

Assist in loss prevention efforts by reporting incidents of loss to the Store Manager promptly.

Identify safety hazards and help maintain the cleanliness of the store and surrounding areas.

Maintain strict confidentiality regarding client and program-related information.


Conduct daily inspections of vehicles, checking air, water, oil, and other components to ensure equipment is clean and well-maintained.

Transport waste to local disposal facilities.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work occurs both inside the store and outside during loading and unloading activities. There may be occasional exposure to cold temperatures and wet conditions. Noise levels are generally low to moderate.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Activities include speaking, sitting, bending, walking, pushing, pulling, standing, kneeling, stooping, reaching, handling, and climbing. Must be able to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Ability to learn and apply proper lifting techniques, including the use of a back brace when necessary. Must be capable of operating a computer, telephone, and similar technologies.

Driver Requirements:
Must possess a valid, unrestricted driver's license. Completion of The Salvation Army Driver Safety Course is required.

Software Skills: Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook is preferred. Basic knowledge of integrated database applications and the ability to learn new software with minimal training.

Language Skills:

Must be able to understand, follow, and provide both written and verbal instructions and be comfortable working with diverse individuals in person and over the phone.

The employee must be able to communicate effectively in ordinary and telephone conversations.

Mathematical Skills:

Must be able to perform basic calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) and apply concepts such as ratios and percentages in practical scenarios.


Performance Skills:
Must be punctual, organized, self-motivated, adaptable, and eager to assist others.

Protect the Mission:

Must complete the online training for this area and pass the required background checks for employment.
