Medical Testing Specialist

Fairview Health Services is seeking a Casual Clinical Laboratory Scientist to join our dedicated team. The role primarily involves Day and Evening shifts, with the possibility of working Nights, weekends, and Holidays. To maintain Casual status, a minimum of 5 shifts every three months is required.
The Acute Care Laboratory at Fairview Lakes Medical Center consists of approximately 30 skilled professionals, providing laboratory services around the clock. Our team conducts collections and testing across various disciplines, including chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, and transfusion medicine for patients of all ages.

Key Responsibilities
The Clinical Laboratory Scientist operates independently, fulfilling all essential functions of professional laboratory practice. Responsibilities include performing a diverse range of complex diagnostic and therapeutic tests, serving as a resource for problem-solving and result interpretation. The Scientist correlates data using clinical knowledge and technical expertise while considering factors that may influence test outcomes. Collaboration with laboratory customers is vital to enhance satisfaction. Participation in laboratory performance improvement initiatives is also expected.
Specific job expectations include:
- Adhering to established protocols for specimen collection and work prioritization.
- Identifying issues and implementing appropriate solutions.
- Assessing testing results for accuracy and necessary interventions.
- Demonstrating a commitment to Laboratory Quality Assurance, Performance Improvement, and Compliance Programs.
- Providing orientation and mentorship to new staff and students.
- Adapting care or service delivery to meet the developmental and cultural needs of the population served.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant laboratory field, including a related lab practicum or equivalent as specified in CLIA '88.
- Possession or eligibility for HHS-approved laboratory certification (ASCP or AMT). HEW certification is also acceptable. Certification must be obtained within one year of hire.
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences or Medical Technology.
- Proficient phlebotomy skills.
