Job Summary:

As a Youth Specialist at the Genesee County Juvenile Justice Center, you will play a vital role in the supervision, care, and guidance of neglected and delinquent youths residing at the facility. Your primary responsibilities will include processing resident admissions and releases, working under the direction of a supervisor, and ensuring the health, safety, and security of both residents and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

Supervise resident peer groups and/or individual youth to ensure their well-being and safety
Participate in team discussions and decisions related to client care
Admit residents into the facility and orient them to rules, regulations, and routines
Discipline residents using prescribed procedures
Instruct and assist residents in personal hygiene, dress, and grooming
Escort residents to meals, school, and other scheduled events on time
Maintain a safe and secure environment through the appropriate use of security systems
Assist in facilitating resident group meetings
Supervise and participate in resident recreational activities
Observe residents for signs of illness or emotional disturbance and make reports as needed
Administer medicine and special care of ill residents as instructed
Perform relatively simple clerical duties
Serve meals and snacks as required

Requirements:

Sixty (60) semester hours of college
OR Thirty (30) semester hours of college -AND- one (1) year experience in the supervision of residents in an institutional facility
OR High school diploma or equivalent -AND- two (2) years' experience in the supervision of residents in an institutional facility

Special Requirements:

Must successfully complete physical restraint training on an annual basis
Must possess a valid Michigan driver's license
