Position Overview:

The role of the Shelter Maintenance Specialist is crucial in ensuring the cleanliness and upkeep of the facility. This position involves various responsibilities aimed at maintaining a welcoming environment for all visitors and program participants.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Perform thorough vacuuming of all carpeted areas.
  • Conduct daily sweeping and mopping of hard surface floors.
  • Buff tiled floors to maintain their shine.
  • Dust and clean all surfaces, including desks, counters, and windowsills.
  • Manage waste collection throughout the building.
  • Maintain cleanliness in restrooms, including toilets, floors, counters, sinks, and mirrors.
  • Restock bathroom supplies as necessary.
  • Ensure glass doors are cleaned inside and out.
  • Keep track of janitorial supplies and place restock orders monthly.
  • Empty and clean outside trash receptacles.
  • Assist in setting up tables and chairs for various programs as directed.
  • Communicate daily with the Facility Manager regarding maintenance needs.
  • Change light bulbs and perform minor repairs as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness of shelter vehicles.
  • Facilitate donation pickups from designated locations.
  • Launder and repack overnight bedding regularly.
  • Disinfect and clean overnight dormitory areas.
  • Supervise program clients as required.
  • Provide coverage at the front desk when necessary.
  • Carry out any additional tasks to uphold the cleanliness and safety of the facility.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 6 months experience in a maintenance or janitorial role.
  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Valid California Class C driver's license is necessary.
  • Good communication skills are essential, with the ability to understand and convey information clearly.
  • Experience operating a switchboard is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires:

  • Frequent lifting of 30 pounds or more.
  • Climbing ladders and good mobility for various tasks.
  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment and grounds maintenance tools.
