Patient Care Technician Medical Surgical Unit

Trinity Health is seeking a skilled Patient Care Technician to join our Medical Surgical Unit. As a Patient Care Technician, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care, working under the direction of a registered nurse. This is a part-time opportunity with a 12-hour day shift schedule.
Responsibilities- Perform direct patient care, considering age-specific, developmental, cultural, and spiritual needs.
- Assist in establishing and maintaining a patient care environment that is clean, safe, and conducive to patient/family well-being.
- Record and calculate intake and output, obtain weights, and apply support/orthopedic devices as needed.
- Obtain routine vital signs, pain scores, and temperatures, and assist patients with coughing, deep breathing, and use of incentive spirometers.
- Apply warm and cold therapies, provide care for restrained patients, and assist with feeding and menu selection.
- Distribute and collect nourishments, answer call lights, and demonstrate sterile or aseptic technique as needed.
- Record patient information and required data in appropriate areas, and assist in establishing and maintaining a patient care environment that is clean, safe, and conducive to patient/family well-being.
- Prepare patient rooms for arrival, assist with transfers and discharges, and orient patients/families/visitors to patient rooms, units, waiting areas, and facilities.
- Make occupied and unoccupied beds, collect and dispose of soiled linen, and clean and maintain equipment according to procedures.
- Provide wound and exit site care as delegated, and perform PEG care and dressing changes.
- Complete delegated unit-specific activities, such as gathering post-procedural data, placing patients on monitors/telemetry, and checking/restocking unit emergency equipment/supplies.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Preferred minimum of one year of previous direct care experience (acute or long-term) or successful completion of CENA, PCT, MA, or EMT course.
- Student nurses must have completed their nursing fundamentals class of a BSN program.
