Job Summary

A Medical Office Assistant plays a vital role in providing quality patient care and ensuring the efficient and safe delivery of services in a medical office setting. This role requires strong communication and organizational skills, as well as the ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist healthcare providers with patient exams, prepare exam rooms, and maintain accurate log books and pharmaceutical sample cabinets.
  • Maintain patient medical records, verify patient information, and file/scanning documents into the correct patient's medical record.
  • Notify patients of normal test results, return patient phone calls, and schedule patients for testing, procedures, and referral appointments.
  • Collect clinical information, prepare reports for providers, and document in medical records.
  • Supply correct information to insurance companies, maintain confidentiality, and release patient information only with appropriate consent.
  • Perform clinical duties, obtain vital signs, collect and process specimens, and perform phlebotomy skills as indicated by completion of training and competency.
  • Maintain exam rooms, clean and stock rooms, order supplies, and prepare non-disposable instruments for sterilization.
  • Schedule patient appointments, process incoming phone calls, and take accurate messages and deliver them to the appropriate person.
  • Assist in the billing process, collect and post payments, balance cash drawers, and prepare superbills with proper information.
Requirements
  • High School diploma/GED or 10 years of work experience.
  • One year of experience in a medical office setting.
Physical Requirements
  • Constant standing and walking.
  • Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication.
  • Frequent use of vision for distances near and far, and to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, sitting, squatting, and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
  • Occasional use of vision to judge distances and spatial relationships.
