Medical Office Assistant

A Medical Office Assistant plays a vital role in providing quality patient care and ensuring that care is delivered in an efficient and safe manner. This position assists the provider in providing patient exams, prepares exam rooms for procedures, and maintains accurate log books and pharmaceutical sample cabinets.
Key Responsibilities- Assist the provider with patient exams and prepare exam rooms for procedures
- Maintain accurate log books and monitor pharmaceutical sample cabinets for expired items
- Verify patient information upon each visit and file/scanning documents into the correct patient's medical record
- Notify patients of normal test results, return patient phone calls, and schedule patients for testing, procedures, and referral appointments
- Collect clinical information by interviewing patients and recording in medical records, preparing reports for the provider to review, and collecting clinical information from agencies and referring providers
- Perform clinical duties such as obtaining vital signs, collecting and processing specimens, and performing phlebotomy skills as indicated by completion of training and competency
- Maintain exam rooms by cleaning and stocking rooms as necessary, ordering supplies, and preparing non-disposable instruments for sterilization
- Schedule patient appointments, reschedule and cancel appointments as necessary, and process incoming phone calls by answering promptly and directing calls to the appropriate person
- Assist in the billing process by collecting and posting payments for services, balancing the cash drawer, preparing superbills with proper information, and updating financial and personal information of patients
- High School diploma/GED or 10 years of work experience
- One year of experience in a medical office setting
- Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner
This position works in a fast-paced medical office environment and requires the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner. The physical demands of this position include constant standing and walking, frequent use of hearing and speech to share information, and occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
