Job Summary

The Development Manager is a key member of our team who will play a crucial role in supporting our fundraising efforts. This position will work closely with various departments and stakeholders to help us maximize our fundraising activities and engage with the community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fundraising and Donor Communications

    • Develop and implement individual and corporate giving programs, including drafting and sending out letters and materials

    • Coordinate the development of annual fund appeals and manage relationships with donor and community stakeholder groups

    • Assist in creating and executing multi-platform fundraising and information campaigns

    • Track and respond to development-related emails and correspondences

    • Collaborate with the marketing and development teams to create and send donor and funder communications

  • Board Support

    • Schedule and coordinate quarterly Board of Trustees meetings and prepare onboarding and meeting materials for new Board members

    • Collaborate with other departments to execute development-related events and site visits

  • Data Management

    • Ensure that all donations are properly tracked and reconciled with the finance team

    • Oversee aspects of the data/CRM platform integrations with Eventbrite and QuickBooks

    • Coordinate the moves management chart, tracking deadlines and updates

About Weeksville Heritage Center

Weeksville Heritage Center is an historic house museum and cultural center in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. We use preservation, education, arts, and civic engagement to examine, interrogate and explore the history of Weeksville, a pre-Civil War free Black community. Our legacy of social and intellectual self-determination holds great meaning for the African Diaspora but has universal relevance at this precarious time in American history. As a community hub, WHC provides a physical and virtual convening space for the Black community. As a presenter of first-rate artistic programming and facilitator of thought leadership, we leverage our inspiring history to serve as a thought-center, hosting leading activists, artists, writers, educators, and community members as they explore the Black experience and the process of community-making. Through exhibitions, residencies, symposia, artistic partnerships and events, and research, we offer a space to grapple with contemporary social issues through the lens of our unique piece of American history. We also conduct conservation efforts by promoting oral history, genealogy, digital storytelling, and other forms of accessible historical research. Lastly, as an education space, we draw on our tactile connection to our history to educate, enrich and inspire generations to come.
