Job Overview

CO-OP Restaurant & Lounge is in search of a Sous Chef who possesses a passion for culinary arts and a commitment to enhancing their expertise in traditional cooking methods within a guest-focused service atmosphere. In this role, you will support the Executive Chef and oversee daily kitchen operations, which encompass procurement, preparation, and ensuring the delivery of a consistently high-quality culinary experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee all kitchen activities, including food preparation and production, as well as the management and training of kitchen personnel.
  • Ensure the kitchen operates efficiently and profitably while maintaining cost-effectiveness in food production.
  • Regularly supervise and inspect all food preparation and cooking equipment to ensure cleanliness, sanitation, and optimal functioning.
  • Guarantee that food products, presentation, and plating meet the highest standards and are served promptly.
  • Act as the Executive Chef in their absence.
  • Maintain elevated standards for food preparation, presentation, and execution.
  • Monitor food storage operations, including stocking and rotation, to ensure compliance with sanitation standards.
  • Uphold sanitary practices for all kitchen staff.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required; formal culinary training or an associate degree in culinary arts preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a fine dining or upscale casual environment.
  • Food Handler certification is required.
  • Strong understanding of various cooking techniques, ingredients, equipment, and procedures.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in English is required; knowledge of a second language is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills, including time management and the ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all hotel departments.
  • Capability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods in an indoor environment.
