Overview of the Role
In this pivotal position, you will be tasked with formulating a comprehensive sourcing strategy that prioritizes initiatives based on their potential impact on the cost of goods, services, and equipment. You will oversee the expansion of supply agreements with key partners and enhance the sourcing capabilities of MedStar Medical Group. Your role includes developing, monitoring, and reporting on essential performance metrics. You will collaborate with various management levels to analyze, summarize, and provide recommendations on sourcing strategies, practices, and procedures. You will manage all aspects of supplier contracting, including selection, negotiation, implementation, and tracking of contract utilization, while fostering strong partnerships with distributors, manufacturers, and other suppliers. This role also involves negotiating non-GPO contracts and reviewing existing agreements to ensure competitiveness and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer contracts to maintain competitiveness, resolve issues, and ensure timely management of system, regional, and local contracts.
  • Work closely with Clinical Value Analysis teams and physician leaders to optimize supply utilization and achieve top-tier supply expense management metrics.
  • Contribute to departmental goals and adhere to established policies, procedures, and quality standards while complying with regulatory requirements.
  • Set improvement targets for suppliers in terms of cost, quality, delivery, and inventory reduction, while identifying new procurement opportunities with diverse suppliers.
  • Follow established procedures for efficient contract administration, ensuring accurate documentation and professional purchasing practices.
  • Identify key business partners and develop strategic programs to maximize relationship value.
  • Engage in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement initiatives and represent the department in community outreach efforts.
  • Prepare Request for Proposals (RFP) and analyze vendor responses to ensure alignment with organizational standards.
  • Drive the successful strategy, development, and execution of contracting programs to enhance efficiency and reduce liability.
  • Collaborate with clinical, administrative, and physician leaders to monitor supply expenses and optimize performance.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field is required.
  • An MBA or MS is preferred.

Experience

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in large-scale negotiations, managing contracts valued at $3,000,000 or more.
  • Proven expertise in material procurement, contract negotiations, and cost analysis with a track record of significant cost reduction initiatives.
  • Previous experience with vendor or group purchasing is preferred.

Certifications

  • Certification as a Materials & Resource Professional (CMRP) is preferred.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong analytical capabilities.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Access.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and statistical software is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
