Overview of the Role
In this pivotal position, you will be tasked with formulating a comprehensive sourcing strategy, prioritizing initiatives that significantly influence the cost of goods, services, and equipment. You will oversee the expansion of supply agreements with essential partners and enhance the sourcing landscape of MedStar Medical Group. Your responsibilities will include developing, monitoring, and reporting on key performance indicators while collaborating with management at all levels to analyze and prepare recommendations on sourcing practices and policies. You will manage all aspects of supplier contracting, which encompasses supplier selection, negotiation, implementation, and utilization tracking, as well as providing support for new strategic initiatives and maintaining robust partnerships with distributors and manufacturers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer contracts to ensure ongoing competitiveness, resolving issues and challenges throughout the contract duration. Manage system, regional, and local contracts for affiliated facilities in a timely and professional manner, ensuring terms remain current and competitive.
  • Work closely with Clinical Value Analysis teams and physician leaders to assess and optimize supply utilization, aiming for industry-leading supply expense management metrics.
  • Contribute to achieving departmental goals and objectives while adhering to established policies, procedures, and quality and safety standards. Ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Set improvement targets for suppliers in areas such as cost, quality, delivery, and inventory reduction. Identify and pursue new procurement opportunities with diverse suppliers.
  • Follow established procedures for efficient contract administration, including proper documentation and professional purchasing practices. Maintain accurate contract records in accordance with guidelines.
  • Identify key business partners and cultivate strategic partnership programs to maximize relationship value.
  • Engage in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as necessary. Represent the department in community outreach efforts.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Prepare Request for Proposals (RFP) documents in line with policies, analyzing vendor responses for compliance with MedStar Health standards.
  • Oversee the successful strategy, development, and execution of assigned contracting programs to enhance efficiency, achieve cost savings, and minimize liability exposure. Investigate all cost of ownership opportunities related to potential acquisitions and purchasing affiliations.
  • Collaborate with clinical, administrative, and physician leaders to monitor supply expenses, present value propositions, and optimize performance in assigned clinical service areas.

Qualifications

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field required.
  • MBA/MS preferred.
Experience
  • 10+ years of experience in large-scale negotiations with contracts valued at $3,000,000 or more.
  • Experience in material procurement, contract negotiations, bidding, and cost analysis with a proven track record of managing significant cost reduction initiatives.
  • Previous experience with vendor or group purchasing preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Certified Materials & Resource Professional (CMRP) preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong analytical capabilities.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Access.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and statistical software applications preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
