Senior Manager of Strategic Procurement

Overview of the Role
As a key player in the MedStar Medical Group, the Senior Manager of Strategic Procurement is accountable for crafting and executing sourcing strategies that prioritize cost efficiency, product availability, and supplier partnerships. This role involves the development, monitoring, and reporting of essential performance metrics, while collaborating with various management levels to analyze and recommend sourcing practices and policies. The manager will oversee all aspects of supplier contracting, which encompasses supplier selection, negotiation, implementation, and tracking of contract utilization, ensuring strong relationships with distributors and manufacturers.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage contracts to maintain competitiveness, addressing issues and ensuring compliance throughout the contract lifecycle.
- Work closely with Clinical Value Analysis teams and physician leaders to enhance supply utilization and achieve top-tier supply expense management metrics.
- Contribute to departmental goals while adhering to policies, procedures, and safety standards, in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Set improvement targets for suppliers in areas such as cost, quality, delivery, and inventory management, while seeking new procurement opportunities with diverse suppliers.
- Ensure efficient contract administration by following established procedures for documentation and professional purchasing practices.
- Identify and cultivate strategic partnerships with key business partners to maximize value from supplier relationships.
- Engage in multidisciplinary teams for quality and service improvement initiatives, representing the department in community outreach as needed.
- Conduct other duties as assigned, including preparing Request for Proposals (RFPs) and analyzing vendor responses for compliance with MedStar Health standards.
- Lead the strategy and execution of assigned contracting programs to enhance efficiency, cost savings, and mitigate liability risks.
- Collaborate with clinical and administrative leaders to monitor supply expenses and optimize performance in designated service areas.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Business or Supply Chain Management is required; an MBA/MS is preferred.
Experience
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in large-scale negotiations, managing contracts valued at $3,000,000 or more.
- Proven expertise in material procurement, contract negotiations, and cost analysis with a track record of significant cost reduction initiatives.
- Prior experience with vendor or group purchasing is preferred.
Certifications
- Certification as a Materials & Resource Professional (CMRP) is preferred.
Skills and Abilities
- Exceptional analytical skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Access.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and statistical software is preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
