Overview

Are you passionate about tackling complex technical challenges and pushing the limits of CPU performance? We are looking for a driven and innovative individual to join our CPU Architecture and Performance Team at Apple. This team is dedicated to pioneering research and development for the next generation of CPU architectures for our iPhone, iPad, and Mac products.

Role Responsibilities

The CPU Platform Architecture team plays a crucial role in guiding the design of Apple CPUs, focusing on cutting-edge micro-architecture concepts. In this position, you will:
  • Address performance issues related to branch prediction, data/code pre-fetching, cache organization, and other CPU domains.
  • Investigate the integration of advanced AI/ML methodologies to tackle CPU performance challenges.
  • Develop effective data analysis tools to identify performance bottlenecks, enabling you to sift through data and pinpoint core issues.
  • Engage in ongoing research across various CPU domains, providing insights to the Apple CPU design team regarding features for future CPUs.
  • Share your analyses and findings with CPU architecture and design teams.
  • Advise on and influence the strategic direction for upcoming Apple CPUs utilized in iPhone, iPad, and Mac systems.

Essential Qualifications
  • Strong understanding of CPU architecture and micro-architecture principles.
  • Specialization in specific CPU focus areas (e.g., branch prediction, pre-fetching) is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with machine learning research, model selection, tuning, and interpretability.
  • Capability to detect performance bottlenecks in standard industry workloads, devise solutions, and implement them in performance simulators.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++ and Python.

Educational Background

A Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 10 years of relevant industry experience is required. A PhD in Computer Science or Computer Engineering with a concentration in Computer Architecture or Machine Learning is preferred.
