Overview

In this role, you will be an integral part of the Platform Architecture team, collaborating with both hardware and software engineering groups to define the architecture of future System-on-Chips (SoC).

Role Summary

We are on the lookout for a dynamic and driven SoC performance engineer to lead the development of memory controllers and system caches tailored for next-generation AR/VR and Cellular/5G applications. This position requires independent performance modeling and simulation, thorough documentation, and effective collaboration with design and software teams.

Key Responsibilities

Your primary duties will include:
  • Developing SoC hardware solutions that are pivotal to the architecture of Apple's future System-on-Chips.
  • Conducting C++ performance modeling of proposed architectural solutions and features.
  • Drafting architectural specification documents in partnership with engineers across various disciplines.
  • Gathering, analyzing, and validating both measured and simulated results to evaluate architectural design alternatives.
  • Collaborating with multi-functional teams to devise architectural solutions.
  • Enhancing Apple's modeling platform by creating APIs, tools, and optimal standard examples for company-wide use.
  • Carefully analyzing and presenting results to facilitate data-driven architecture and design decisions.
  • Measuring and assessing existing SoC and workloads.
  • Some international travel may be necessary for this role.

Essential Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:
  • In-depth knowledge of cache management and memory controllers for DRAM technologies, with experience in writing cache and memory simulators using C++ being a significant advantage.
  • Proficient coding, debugging, and testing skills in C/C++ and scripting languages.
  • Published research in leading computer architecture conferences/journals and patents related to computer architecture, showcasing expertise in designing and evaluating various cache and memory performance techniques.
  • Experience analyzing memory access patterns and bandwidth/latency requirements for CPU, GPU, Video, Camera, and Machine Learning hardware accelerators.
  • Expertise in collaborative code development utilizing revision control systems such as GIT.
  • Strong communication and documentation capabilities.

Education & Experience

A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with a minimum of 10 years of industry experience is required.
