Job Summary:
The Rheumatology Specialty Nurse is a key member of the Nemours healthcare team, responsible for providing specialized nursing care to patients with rheumatology-related conditions. This role requires a strong foundation in nursing practice, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform ongoing assessment and evaluation of patient progress, revising the interdisciplinary plan of care as needed.
- Identify patient/family needs for further resources and initiate appropriate teaching and/or referrals.
- Participate in responding to patient inquiries, explaining treatment regimens to patients/families after discussing with physicians or advanced practice providers.
- Share clinical knowledge with other healthcare team members, working collaboratively with the Nursing Education Department to disseminate subspecialty knowledge to nursing staff.
- Act as a liaison between families and healthcare team members.
- Utilize specialized knowledge and technical skills in nursing practice related to rheumatology, adhering to the Nurse Practice Act, hospital policy, and protocol.
- Participate in developing standards of care for the specialty patient population.
- Demonstrate proficiency in caring for patients of all ages, from neonates to adults.
- Recognize and address own learning needs, striving for continual development and professional growth.
- Contribute to departmental and hospital programs for Quality/Process Assessment and Improvement, identifying opportunities to enhance services, making recommendations, and implementing actions as appropriate.
Requirements:
- BSN required
- Active Delaware (or compact state) Registered Nurse Licensure Required
- American Heart Association BLS required
- Pediatric nursing experience required; prior rheumatology nursing experience preferred
