This includes engaging in essential tasks such as phone triage, addressing scheduling inquiries, obtaining insurance authorizations, drafting correspondence, and maintaining communication with families through the designated patient portal.
Moreover, the Rheumatology Specialty Nurse is actively involved in educating patients and their families, whether in-clinic or via phone, about prevalent Rheumatology conditions and their respective treatments.
This role demands the application of the nursing process to deliver and assess nursing care effectively. Key Attributes: Candidates should exhibit strong time management capabilities, a proactive work ethic, effective teamwork skills, and a genuine commitment to enhancing rheumatology patient care.
Core Responsibilities:
- Conducts continuous assessments and evaluations of patient progress, adjusting the interdisciplinary care plan as necessary.
- Identifies the educational needs of patients and families, initiating appropriate teaching and referrals.
- Responds to patient inquiries via phone, clarifying treatment plans after consultation with the physician or advanced practice provider.
- Shares clinical expertise with healthcare team members and collaborates with the Nursing Education Department to disseminate subspecialty knowledge.
- Acts as a communication bridge between families and healthcare professionals.
- Employs specialized knowledge and technical skills in nursing practice, adhering to the Nurse Practice Act and institutional policies.
- Contributes to the formulation of care standards for the specialty patient demographic.
- Demonstrates competence in caring for patients across all age groups, including neonates, children, adolescents, and adults.
- Recognizes personal learning needs and takes responsibility for ongoing professional development, setting goals for growth.
- Engages in departmental and institutional initiatives for Quality/Process Assessment and Improvement, identifying service enhancement opportunities and implementing necessary actions aligned with the objectives of the Nemours Foundation.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is mandatory.
- Current Registered Nurse Licensure in Delaware (or a compact state) is essential.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association is required.
- Experience in pediatric nursing is essential, with prior experience in Rheumatology nursing being advantageous.
