Position Overview

UPMC Metropolitan Ear, Nose, and Throat is seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant for their Wexford facility. This role offers a consistent Monday to Friday schedule, ensuring a work-life balance with no evening, weekend, or holiday shifts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage patient schedules and facilitate smooth patient flow. Assist patients in navigating to exam or procedure rooms, providing support with mobility, dressing, specimen collection, and preparation for examinations. Gather patient medical history, record vital signs, and conduct screenings as per provider protocols. Communicate instructions effectively to patients and their families.
  • Handle the transmission of patient medical records in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) along with relevant state and federal regulations.
  • Prepare examination rooms and set up necessary instruments and equipment following departmental guidelines. Ensure cleanliness of exam and procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to uphold infection control standards. Maintain scheduled cleaning routines and keep accurate records. Oversee inventory management of medical supplies, ensuring exam and procedure rooms are well-stocked.
  • Adhere to the standards set by regulatory agencies such as OSHA, CLIA, and the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Maintain confidentiality regarding medical records and other sensitive information. Follow all policies and procedures established by UPMC Health System.
  • Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and basic laboratory tests. Assist in clinical procedures in accordance with established policies. Support physicians during procedures and document patient information accurately in medical records.
  • Respond to phone inquiries and provide relevant information, including patient education as directed.
  • Obtain laboratory and x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information as needed. Complete necessary forms and requisitions. Schedule patient appointments and verify insurance coverage and demographic information. Organize and manage patient charts to ensure all information is complete and properly filed. Undertake additional front office duties as required.
  • Under physician supervision, administer injectable medications and vaccines when appropriate.

A high school diploma or equivalent is mandatory. Basic computer proficiency and familiarity with medical terminology, examination, diagnostic, and treatment room responsibilities are essential.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
CPR certification is required based on AHA standards, which includes both theoretical and practical components within the initial onboarding period.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
