Position Overview

UPMC Metropolitan Ear, Nose, and Throat is seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant for their Wexford facility. This role offers a consistent Monday through Friday schedule, ensuring a work-life balance without the need for night shifts, weekends, or holiday commitments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage patient schedules and facilitate smooth patient flow. Escort patients to examination or procedure rooms and assist them with mobility, dressing, specimen collection, and preparation for examinations. Gather patient medical history, monitor vital signs, and conduct screenings as per provider protocols. Communicate instructions effectively to patients and their families.
  • Handle the transmission and reception of patient medical records in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and relevant state and federal regulations.
  • Prepare examination rooms and set up necessary instruments and equipment following departmental protocols. Ensure cleanliness of exam and procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to uphold infection control standards. Maintain inventory of medical supplies and restock as needed.
  • Adhere to the guidelines set by regulatory agencies such as OSHA, CLIA, and the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Maintain confidentiality regarding medical records and comply with all UPMC Health System policies and procedures.
  • Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and basic laboratory tests. Assist physicians during procedures and accurately document patient information in medical records.
  • Respond to phone inquiries and provide relevant information, including patient education as directed.
  • Obtain laboratory and x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral details. Complete necessary forms and requisitions, schedule appointments, verify insurance coverage, and manage patient demographics. Ensure that patient charts are organized and information is accurately filed. Perform additional front office tasks as required.
  • Under physician supervision, administer injectable medications and vaccines when appropriate.

A high school diploma or equivalent is mandatory. Candidates should possess basic computer skills and familiarity with medical terminology, examination protocols, and responsibilities in diagnostic and treatment settings.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
CPR certification is required based on AHA standards, which includes both theoretical and practical components within the initial onboarding period.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting certification with renewal
  • Act 33 certification with renewal
  • Act 34 certification with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
