GENERAL SUMMARY:
As an integral member of the healthcare team, the Lead Medical Assistant offers clinical supervision and guidance across extensive multi-site practices. This role is responsible for overseeing the onboarding process for newly recruited medical assistants, ensuring they are well-versed in operational workflows, policies, and procedures. The Lead Medical Assistant collaborates closely with Practice Management to facilitate ongoing training for medical assistants as required. This position provides leadership and mentorship, continuously evaluating clinical competencies and recommending further training or re-education as necessary.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise the training and onboarding of newly hired medical assistants, as well as students and interns. Deliver ongoing education to department medical assistants regarding new workflows and clinical office protocols. Act as a champion for patient satisfaction, professional development, and positive workplace relations. Serve as a clinical resource for workflows, departmental policies, and procedures. (25%)
- Provide clinical oversight and serve as a resource for medical assistants. Offer constructive feedback for performance evaluations. Responsible for scheduling staff to ensure adequate coverage. Identify educational gaps and recommend appropriate training. (20%)
- Act as an electronic health record (EHR) superuser. Communicate and educate staff on new workflows relevant to their roles. Ensure accurate documentation of all relevant details in the EHR according to established standards, including all patient interactions during encounters. Review and update medication lists in the EHR. Discuss problem lists and social histories with patients and update records accordingly. Adhere to Meaningful Use standards and assist with population health management. (15%)
- Prepare and room patients within the clinical setting according to standardized workflows. Accurately obtain patient vital signs and document patient information, medical history, and medication reconciliation. Prepare examination rooms for patient visits. Demonstrate advanced proficiency in pre-visit planning, meaningful use standards, and appropriate documentation. (15%)
- Assist in coordinating patient care under the supervision of the assigned healthcare provider. Support providers during examinations and procedures. Address patient prescription needs based on established protocols. Provide guidance and oversight to medical assistants regarding these essential functions. (10%)
- Collaborate with clinical team members to follow up with patients at designated intervals using their preferred communication method (telephone, electronic, written) as per provider instructions. Notify patients of test results under the direction of the provider in a timely manner. Mentor staff requiring additional support to enhance patient interactions and satisfaction. (10%)
- Ensure adequate inventory of medical supplies and maintain all patient treatment areas stocked with appropriate supplies according to established inventory standards. (5%)
- Perform additional duties as assigned or required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum:
- 1-year certificate from a college or technical school
- Certified Medical Assistant
- Experience with Electronic Health Records
- CPR certification from the American Heart Association
- Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
- Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
- Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
