Position Overview

UPMC Franklin Park Family Medicine is seeking a dedicated full-time Medical Assistant. This role operates Monday through Friday during daylight hours, with one late evening each month, and no weekend or holiday shifts required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage patient schedules and facilitate smooth patient flow. Escort patients to examination or procedure rooms and assist them with mobility, dressing, specimen collection, and preparation for examinations. Gather patient history and vital signs, perform screenings as per provider protocols, and communicate instructions to patients and their families.
  • Handle the sending and receiving of patient medical records in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) along with other applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Prepare examination rooms and set up necessary instruments and equipment in accordance with departmental protocols. Ensure cleanliness of exam and procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to uphold infection control standards. Maintain records of cleaning schedules and manage inventory of medical supplies, restocking as necessary.
  • Adhere to the standards set by relevant regulatory bodies (e.g., OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health). Uphold strict confidentiality regarding medical records and related information. Follow all policies and procedures established by UPMC Health System.
  • Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and basic laboratory tests. Assist physicians during procedures and accurately document patient information in medical records.
  • Respond to phone inquiries and provide relevant information, including patient education as directed.
  • Obtain laboratory and radiology reports, hospital notes, and referral information as needed. Complete necessary forms and requisitions, schedule appointments, verify insurance coverage, and ensure patient demographic information is accurate. Organize and manage patient charts to ensure all information is complete and properly filed. Execute other front office duties as required.
  • Under the supervision of a physician, administer injectable medications and vaccines when appropriate.

A high school diploma or equivalent is mandatory. Basic computer skills and familiarity with medical terminology, examination protocols, and treatment room responsibilities are essential.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
CPR certification is required in accordance with AHA standards, which includes both theoretical and practical components within the first month of employment.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Act 34 Clearance
