Position Overview

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is in search of a dedicated Mechanical Engineer to become a vital member of our Facilities Engineering team. This role is based at our Kenneth A. Kesselring Site in Ballston Spa, NY, where our Facilities Engineering organization focuses on the upkeep and enhancement of essential facility infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the design, maintenance, and optimization of mechanical systems crucial to Navy operations.
  • Collaborate with on-site craft organizations, service subcontractors, and project managers to address diverse challenges.
  • Provide expertise in engineering and operation of mechanical systems, including HVAC, steam and condensate, compressed air, plumbing, and radiological ventilation.
  • Assist in planning, designing, and overseeing the maintenance and modification of system equipment and facilities.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues, develop specifications, and deliver engineering solutions.
  • Support project scoping, design reviews, construction support, and commissioning activities.
  • Manage operations, maintenance, repair, and construction activities for facility equipment.
  • Evaluate existing systems and propose engineering solutions to improve reliability, performance, and efficiency.
  • Coordinate with internal teams (Maintenance, Facility Operations, Security, Safety) and external vendors.

Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related science field with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree in engineering or a related science field with at least 2 years of relevant experience; or equivalent qualifications in the Nuclear Operations Program.

Additional qualifications include:

  • Experience in engineering design, troubleshooting, or repair.
  • Familiarity with New York State Mechanical Code and ASHRAE Fundamentals.
  • Proficiency in developing engineering documents and reviewing technical drawings.
  • Knowledge of verification and acceptance testing for facilities projects.
