Position Overview
The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is on the lookout for a dedicated Mechanical Engineer to become a vital member of our Facilities Engineering team. This role is based at our Kenneth A. Kesselring Site in Ballston Spa, NY, where our Facilities Engineering organization is committed to maintaining and enhancing the infrastructure critical to our mission.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the design, maintenance, and optimization of mechanical systems essential to Navy operations.
- Collaborate with on-site craft organizations, service subcontractors, and project managers to address diverse challenges.
- Provide expertise in engineering and operating mechanical systems, including HVAC, steam and condensate, compressed air, plumbing, and radiological ventilation.
- Assist in planning, designing, and overseeing the maintenance and modification of system equipment and facilities.
- Troubleshoot technical issues, develop specifications, and deliver engineering solutions.
- Support project scoping, design reviews, construction support, and commissioning activities.
- Manage operations, maintenance, repair, and construction activities for facility equipment.
- Evaluate existing systems and propose engineering solutions to enhance reliability, performance, and efficiency.
- Coordinate with internal teams and external vendors to ensure seamless operations.
Qualifications
Applicants should possess a Bachelor's degree in an engineering or science-related field with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with at least 2 years of relevant experience. Alternative qualifications include CTE/ACRS with 1 year EOOW qualification in the Nuclear Operations Program, or experience as a Watch Instructor and Refueling Facility Area Refueling Engineer with 1 year as SRE.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in engineering design, troubleshooting, or repair.
- Familiarity with New York State Mechanical Code and ASHRAE Fundamentals.
- Proficiency in developing engineering documents and reviewing technical drawings.
- Knowledge of verification and acceptance testing for facilities projects.
