Position Overview:

Sovah Health is seeking a PRN Laboratory Technician to conduct routine laboratory analyses across various departments.

  • Ensure accurate patient and specimen identification prior to testing.
  • Conduct standard testing procedures and accurately report results.
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on laboratory instruments.
  • Communicate critical values in accordance with established protocols.
  • Participate in proficiency testing as directed by supervisors.
  • Conduct quality control assessments.
  • Adhere to specimen rejection protocols.
  • Follow troubleshooting guidelines to address instrumentation or testing issues.
  • Document corrective actions for any deviations from established procedures.
  • Engage in continuous improvement initiatives within the laboratory.
  • Maintain necessary supplies for testing.
  • Assist in training and onboarding new team members.

Educational Requirements:

  • Associate's Degree in Medical Technology or related field preferred.
  • Completion of a 50-week military medical laboratory training course with a minimum of two years of experience is acceptable.

Essential Skills:

  • Strong critical thinking abilities and sound judgment.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Physical demands may include prolonged periods of standing or sitting, as well as lifting and carrying weights of 5-25 pounds.
  • Requires full range of motion and manual dexterity.
  • Effective communication skills, both in person and over the phone.
  • High level of mental alertness and ability to manage stress effectively.

Licensure/Certification:

  • Preferred certifications include MLT (ASCP), AMT, NCA, or other recognized national certifications.

Experience:

  • Preferred: At least one year of experience in a medical laboratory setting post-training.
