Role Summary:
Sovah Martinsville is in search of a PRN Neurodiagnostic Tech II to assist in training new personnel within the Sleep Laboratory. This role adheres to state and federal regulations as well as healthcare standards. The technician will be proficient in conducting advanced sleep testing procedures and related interventions, working independently under the general supervision of the RPSGT Sleep Center Clinical Manager or Medical Director.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify normal and abnormal sleep patterns and tracings, recognizing sleep stages and eliminating artifacts.
- Possess knowledge of common sleep disorders and treatment options, educating patients effectively.
- Assist in training and supervising Sleep Laboratory Technicians and Trainees.
- Oversee patient and equipment setup, ensuring adherence to departmental policies.
- Recognize EKG rhythms and dysrhythmias, responding appropriately to life-threatening situations.
- Score records according to AASM guidelines, if trained.
- Support clerical and recordkeeping tasks within the lab.
- Conduct CPAP/BIPAP/ASV titrations in accordance with departmental protocols.
- Utilize oxygen therapy as per departmental guidelines.
- Communicate effectively with patients to gather necessary information for studies.
- Perform equipment calibrations and maintain cleanliness as per departmental standards.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and document patient information accurately.
- Fill patient vacancies and schedule additional studies as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent, with registration as a Polysomnographic Technologist.
Essential Skills:
- Critical thinking and decisive judgment with minimal supervision.
- Able to function in a high-pressure environment and respond appropriately.
- Physical capability to handle and lift patients, with manual dexterity and coordination.
- Occasional lifting of items up to 100 lbs, with corrected vision and hearing within normal ranges.
Certifications Required:
- AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Licensure by the Virginia Board of Medicine to practice Polysomnography.
Experience Required:
- Minimum of two years in a sleep laboratory, including one year of training under an RPSGT and a Sleep Board Certified Medical Director.
