Role Summary:
Sovah Martinsville is in search of a PRN Neurodiagnostic Technician II to assist in training new personnel in the Sleep Laboratory. This role adheres to state and federal regulations as well as healthcare standards. The technician will be proficient in conducting advanced sleep testing procedures and interventions, working independently under the general supervision of the Sleep Center Clinical Manager or Medical Director.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify normal and abnormal sleep patterns and tracings, recognizing sleep stages and eliminating artifacts.
- Possess knowledge of common sleep disorders and educate patients effectively.
- Assist in training and supervising Sleep Laboratory Technicians and Trainees.
- Manage patient and equipment setup, ensuring compliance with departmental policies.
- Recognize EKG rhythms and respond to life-threatening arrhythmias.
- Score records according to AASM guidelines, if trained.
- Support clerical tasks and recordkeeping within the lab.
- Conduct CPAP/BIPAP/ASV titrations per departmental protocols.
- Utilize oxygen therapy appropriately according to departmental standards.
- Communicate effectively with patients to gather necessary information for studies.
- Perform calibrations for patients and equipment.
- Maintain and clean equipment daily as per departmental policies.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and determine appropriate actions.
- Document patient information accurately in tech reports.
- Perform EEGs and Endarterectomy EEGs if trained.
- Fill patient vacancies as needed and schedule additional studies as required.
Education Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent. Registered by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist.
Essential Skills:
- Critical thinking, decisive judgment, and ability to work independently.
- Capability to function in a high-pressure environment and respond appropriately.
- Full range of motion, including the ability to handle and lift patients, manual dexterity, and coordination.
- Occasional lifting of items up to 100 lbs, including medical equipment.
- Corrected vision and hearing within normal ranges, with the ability to work under stress and extended shifts.
Certifications Required:
- AHA Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Licensed by the Virginia Board of Medicine to practice Polysomnography
Experience Required:
- Minimum of two years in a sleep laboratory, including at least one year of training under an RPSGT and a Sleep Board Certified Medical Director.
