Position Summary:

Sovah Health - Martinsville is in search of a dedicated full-time night shift Medical Lab Technician to conduct routine laboratory tests across various departments.

  • Ensure accurate patient and specimen identification prior to testing.
  • Conduct standard testing procedures and communicate results effectively.
  • Perform maintenance and troubleshooting on laboratory instruments.
  • Notify critical values in accordance with established protocols.
  • Engage in proficiency testing as directed by supervisory staff.
  • Implement quality control measures consistently.
  • Adhere to specimen rejection guidelines and procedures.
  • Follow troubleshooting protocols to address instrumentation or testing issues.
  • Document corrective actions when test systems deviate from established standards.
  • Utilize laboratory and hospital quality assurance plans to enhance processes.
  • Maintain necessary supplies for test execution.
  • Assist in training and onboarding new laboratory personnel.

Minimum Educational Requirements:
  • Preferred: Associate's Degree with training in medical technology.
  • Acceptable: Completion of a 50-week military medical laboratory training course with a minimum of 2 years of experience.
Essential Skills:
  • Strong critical thinking abilities and sound judgment.
  • Capability to operate independently in a high-pressure environment.
  • Physical demands may include prolonged periods of standing or sitting, bending, and lifting 5-25 pounds.
  • Requires full range of motion, including eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Effective communication skills for interaction with colleagues and patients.
  • High mental alertness and ability to manage stress and irregular hours.
Required Certification:
  • Preferred: MLT certification (ASCP), AMT, NCA, or equivalent national certification.
Experience:
  • Preferred: Minimum of 1 year of medical laboratory experience post-training.
