Role Summary:
Sovah Martinsville is looking for a PRN Neurodiagnostic Technician II to assist in training new personnel in the Sleep Laboratory. This role adheres to state and federal regulations as well as healthcare standards. The technician will perform advanced sleep testing procedures and interventions independently, under the general supervision of the Sleep Center Clinical Manager or Medical Director. Participation in training and educational seminars is required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify normal and abnormal sleep patterns and tracings, recognizing sleep stages and eliminating artifacts.
- Possess knowledge of common sleep disorders and treatment methodologies, providing patient education effectively.
- Assist in training and supervising Sleep Laboratory Technicians and Trainees.
- Oversee patient and equipment setup, ensuring compliance with departmental policies.
- Recognize EKG rhythms and respond to life-threatening arrhythmias appropriately.
- Score records in accordance with AASM guidelines, if trained.
- Support clerical tasks and recordkeeping within the laboratory.
- Conduct CPAP/BIPAP/ASV titrations following departmental protocols.
- Administer oxygen therapy as per established guidelines.
- Engage with patients to gather necessary information for studies.
- Perform equipment calibrations and maintain cleanliness according to departmental standards.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and determine necessary actions.
- Document patient information accurately on studies and technical reports.
- Conduct EEGs and Endarterectomy EEGs if trained.
- Fill patient vacancies as needed and schedule additional studies as required.
Education Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent. Registered by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist.
Essential Skills:
- Critical thinking, decisive judgment, and the ability to work independently.
- Ability to perform under stress and take appropriate actions.
- Full range of motion, including the ability to handle and lift patients, manual dexterity, and coordination.
- Occasional lifting of items up to 100 lbs, with corrected vision and hearing within normal ranges.
Certifications/Licenses:
- AHA Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Licensed by the Virginia Board of Medicine to practice Polysomnography.
Experience:
- Minimum of two years working in a sleep laboratory, including at least one year of training under an RPSGT and a Sleep Board Certified Medical Director.
