Role Overview

The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, testing, certification, and development of high assurance encryption solutions that meet NSA TEMPEST standards. This role involves providing specialized expertise in 'Design for TEMPEST' for various secure communication systems, ensuring compliance and addressing any testing discrepancies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with hardware and mechanical engineers to develop TEMPEST-compliant products.
  • Participate in design reviews and recommend circuit designs for new TEMPEST solutions.
  • Review schematic and CAD designs for compliance.
  • Create and execute TEMPEST test plans, procedures, and documentation.
  • Assist in the initial certification and submission processes for Viasat's TEMPEST facility.
  • Oversee the company's certification under the TEMPEST Manufacturing and Test Services Program.
  • Conduct testing in accordance with established TEMPEST standards.
  • Work with both in-house and contract test technicians to perform experimental and formal TEMPEST tests.
  • Implement Viasat's production sampling TEMPEST program.
  • Collaborate closely with NSA to achieve successful testing outcomes and product certifications.
  • Support EMI/EMC qualification processes for Viasat products.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in hardware design for TEMPEST-secure products.
  • At least 3 years of TEMPEST experience post-CTP certification.
  • Thorough understanding of NSTISSAM TEMPEST/1-92 and CNSSAM TEMPEST/01-02 specifications.
  • Familiarity with TEMPEST testing equipment including receivers, oscilloscopes, and signal analyzers.
  • Solid foundation in analog and digital logic principles.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of working with diverse teams.
  • Ability to document and report technical findings effectively.
  • Understanding of production processes and common failure modes.
  • Experience working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to troubleshoot production issues.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.
  • NSA Certified TEMPEST Professional Level I (CTP-I) required.
  • U.S. citizenship is mandatory for this position.
  • Active DoD Top Secret Clearance or the ability to obtain one.
  • Willingness to travel up to 30% as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with MIL-STD-461/464 and/or DO-160 EMI/EMC standards.
  • NSA Certified TEMPEST Professional Level II (CTP-II) is a plus.
